NOTE: For the 2021-22 school year, membership fees will be $10–

Dear Friend,

Thank you for considering a SWLA CHEF annual membership. The question is often asked, “Why should I join SWLA CHEF, Inc.?”

Galatians 5:13, 14 says, “For, brethren, you have been called unto liberty: only use not liberty for an occasion to the flesh, but by love serve one another. For all the law is fulfilled in one word, even in this; You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”

In our area we have a very strong homeschooling community that is not part of CHEF. It is a good thing to have this unity among homeschoolers. Some of the activities such as Jr./Sr. High Co-Op, Science/Social Studies Fairs, Chess, and Nature Days were started by CHEF members who desired to serve our whole homeschooling community.

You can stay very busy as a homeschooler and not be a part of CHEF. There are many activities that you can choose from and not be a part of any organized group.

If you have young children, you might want to join so you can bring the children to the holiday parties, but what about if your children are older? You have done this for a while, you don’t need any help or support, and you can set up your own field trips?

CHEF is more than, “What can this group do for me?” SWLA CHEF, Inc. is a ministry to homeschoolers. When new homeschoolers have questions, they call CHEF. CHEF spends many hours on the phone answering questions. When homeschoolers have problems with the School Board, they call CHEF. When the School Board has questions, they call CHEF. CHEF, at both the local and state level, works very hard to provide training and support for homeschoolers in the form of yearly conferences and workshops. Also, at the state level, CHEF of LA, which we are a part of, has someone who watches every law that goes through the Legislature. We are only ONE law away from losing our homeschooling freedom.

The battle being fought is long from being over. Yes, HSLDA is also watching and fighting for us, and we encourage you to be a part of it for the same reasons, but it takes many warriors. Just as in Exodus 17:12, Moses’ hands became heavy; so they took a stone and put it under him, and Moses sat on it. Aaron and Hur supported his hands, one on one side, and the other on the other side; Moses’ hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

If you can not be the one answering the DAILY questions on the phone or the one on the court house steps, we are asking that you are the one “holding up the arms” of the weary ones who are on the front lines. We are asking that serving other homeschoolers and those that are working to protect our freedoms be enough of a reason for joining SWLA CHEF, Inc. After you have joined, we are asking you to become a prayer warrior and pray for the ones who are leading our group. If you would like to become involved in serving in any way please contact SWLA CHEF, Inc.
